The GHCA holds an annual convention, normally in
the Spring. The convention lends
the membership an excellent opportunity for fellowship among industry members
and access to GDOT
officials and legislators. In addition, we provide informative General
Sessions, social activities and recreational events.

As a registered lobbyist, GHCA’s Executive
Director is a permanent fixture at the Capitol when the Georgia General Assembly
convenes. GHCA represents our member interests as one collective voice before the
Georgia legislature concerning legislation and regulations in areas of
significance to the transportation industry. Further, we foster a positive partnership between
government agencies and officials. It’s our proactive involvement and advocacy
that lends itself to a progressive transportation program across the state of
Georgia.
In
addition, GHCA's Political Action Committee is dedicated to the promotion of
good government and the preservation of the private enterprise system.
This group tirelessly works for the protection and advancement of the highway
construction industry.

Annually, the GHCA co-sponsors a GPTQ (Georgia
Partnership for Transportation Quality) Workshop which is well attended by contractor and associate
members, GDOT/FHWA representatives, consulting engineers and other groups
interested in quality transportation systems.
The workshop has traditionally been held at the University of Georgia
Center for Continuing Education in Athens, Georgia, and has proved to be an
excellent conduit to share technological advances, new methodologies and problem
resolutions affecting our industry. Additionally,
various social events are scheduled which provide excellent networking
opportunities.

The GHCA-SIF is a Self Insured Trust Fund
organized in 1990 exclusively for Association members to provide a stable,
competitive, long term solution to treating workers compensation risks.
The fund provides the following services: loss control, claims
management, Drug Free Workplace certification, out-of-state coverage, small
deductible options, educational seminars and newsletters, NCCI reporting,
experience mod promulgations, loss ratio and drug-free credits as well as
substantial dividends to eligible members.
As a member of the Fund, you own and participate in the benefits.
You receive a quality product and customized services through a highly
specialized staff of professionals trained to meet the specific insurance needs
of contractors.
NOTE:
Due to relatively favorable premium rates for workers' compensation coverage,
GHCA's SIF became inactive on April 1, 1999. However, the fund is
currently in sound financial condition and our Board of Trustees continues to
meet regularly; and contingent upon market conditions, the SIF may be
reactivated at any time to better serve our members as the need arises.
